Mobile Device Cases and Your Fashion Statement
It's not a terribly pressing topic, and so it doesn't get talked about much. But, behind the scenes, the mobile tech industry has spawned a whole little fashion industry: carrying cases for mobile devices. They get designed, they get sold and bought, picky customers go out of their way to find a unique one, and they never get written about on EnGadget.
Their purpose isn't entirely cosmetic, though. A good quality device case will protect your smartphone or UMPC from the elements, accidents, and life's little mishaps. Up to a point, anyway. They won't help much when you drop your mobile phone in the loo. We know you've done it. Fess up, everybody does it once.
Anyway, just some of the device cases for various mobile gadgets out there include those for:
·Apple iPods and iPhones - Of course, Apple users are the first people we think of when it comes to making a fashion statement with your technology. Non-Apple users, you can just never mind the comments about the people who stand in line all night for pretty toys. We can hear you thinking.
·Laptop cases - Those sexy black leather numbers you see being toted around. You can't get on a plane anymore without tripping over a bunch of them in the aisle.
·Mobile phone covers - We've noticed that you can't go to the shopping mall or flea market without seeing some stand set up selling a thousand different little plastic covers and cases, in designs of every style from Country Punker to Goth Flapper.
·Tablets and PDAs - Here there's really a practical purpose; tablet PCs especially are prone to getting their screen scratched.
While we're on the subject of cases for your mobile devices, we might as well mention a few tips for taking care of both device and case. One important rule is to never mistreat batteries. Follow the manufacturer's directions for recharging the rechargeable kind and promptly dispose of the disposable kind, less battery acid leak out and corrode your equipment. Clean mobile devices with a soft cloth, and be sure to keep them away from static. Cases should never be used wet; leave the case dry out before using them again when you get caught in the rain. And of course, water and electronics don't mix and never shall.
That being said, you can have fun dressing up your mobile devices. You can pick colors and style to suit your personality, and there's even novelty ones that really make a statement.
