Otterbox for Samsung Q1 Models
Samsung has defined the market for ultra-mobile PCs, with it's kinship with Microsoft's Origami project, which is not at all to be confused with the art of paper-folding. Other mobile computer makers might make them smaller or shinier, but Samsung was first to market and shows the most innovation.
And this case is one of the few we've seen to not only protect the device, but to make it look snazzy as well. Otterbox, whose slogan is "We've got technology covered!", has produced cases for iPods, iPhones, Blackberrys, Palms, PDAs, tablets, and UMPCs. And now they have the Otterbox 1990.
It's made only for the models starting with Q1U or Q1UP. The case fits snugly over the interface while allowing clear access to the buttons, and allowing access to all I/O ports including the webcam. It boasts three layers of protection, namely a protective membrane to make it scratch-proof, a high-impact polycarbonate shell, and a skin an eighth of an inch thick to protect against shock.
Our tip for the day to parents: be sure to protect a mobile device with a case before turning it over to your kids, because they'll just toss it into their backpack, take off for school, and come with it broken. We've talked to parents who are saying that that's becoming the number-one way they lose a UMPC.
