Things You Didn’t Know You Could Do With a Blackberry
- If you highlight the date and time in the calendar before you start typing, it will automatically create an appointment with that entry in your calendar.
- If you have images hosted at sites like Photobucket, you can paste them directly into forum text boxes by using the "IMG Code" shown under the image on the image hosting site. Copy that code, then paste it between a pair of BB-code style [IMG][/IMG] tags.
- You can confirm of your contact's Blackberry is turned on, simply by sending them a blank email with the subject line "<confirm>".
- If you see a letter underlined in a menu entry, that's the hotkey to perform that action. Just like in a desktop computer!
- Typing "mynumber" all as one word, will substitute your phone number. "mypin" will likewise substitute your PIN number.
- If your calendar or address book isn't synchronized over wireless right, you can go into 'options', turn off wireless sync, save the change, then go back and turn it on. Sort of like "rebooting" the connection.
- Hold down the digit '1' key to automatically dial your voice-mail.
- When seeking through a video, holding down 'shift' while spinning the scroll wheel will make it track very slowly, as opposed to the normal big steps it skips through.
- You can set the automatic on/off feature to a specific time each day. For instance, have it turn on in the morning when you get up, and off in the afternoon when you go home from work.
- You can highlight text by holding down the 'alt' key and moving the scroll-wheel up and down. On release, the menu will give you a 'copy' option.
- When viewing a message, pressing 't' and 'b' are the hotkeys to take you to the top and bottom of the message, similar to the function of 'home' and 'end' on a PC.
- You can set filters for your email. In the menu 'mail', 'options', 'email filters' you can create a "whitelist" to only get emails from certain users or with certain subject lines. For instance, you can set your filters up to only get work-related alerts, then turn filters off for the weekend.
- To free up reserved memory space, insert your media card and go to 'media', 'options'. Select 12 Mb for 'device memory' and 0 Mb for 'reserved pictures memory'. This will open up reserved space when you don't have the media card installed.
